about

Whitby (our home town) is FAMOUS for many things. One of them being Whitby Goth Weekend(s) oh - and also because it is the setting for Bram Stoker's popular novel (eh - what was it called?....). The song was written with all this in mind, and maybe the fact that steam trains still run out of Whitby station also had something of an influence.....

lyrics

I met a girl on the Gothic Express
Poetry in motion, In a tight black dress
Thought I was a man, Thought I was cool
She played me like a fish, I was a fool
Her eyes were black
And her teeth were white
The train sped ahead Into the night
She was Transylvanian

We started to talk
I lost all sense of time
I was drinking whiskey
She was drinking Red Red Wine
And just by some chance
Our hands just happened to touch
I never knew then
That it would cost me so much
We were drinking in the Pullman
When the lights began to fail
Her skin in the moonlight was white and pale
She was Transylvanian

She said STOP THE TRAIN
I wanna get off NOW
The children of the night were howling
And how
She pulled hard on the cord
The train screamed and shuddered to a stop
It was all a bad dream
With her cherry on the top
I thought I was a man
Thought I was cool
But that’s when I knew that I was a fool

Cos she was Transylvanian

A cold winter’s chill
It ripped through my head
And ever since that night
She’s been making my bed
She took me to the altar
She ripped out my heart
But that was the beginning
That was just the start
So now that I’ve told my story to you
Let me buy you a drink
Cos I’m Transylvanian too

She said STOP THE TRAIN
I wanna get off NOW

The band have a unique and extensive repertoire of original songs & music with a style that is melodic but defies easy classification - neither slotting into a niche which could be defined as Blues, Folk, or pop, but more often some elements combining the above.
During 2020 we've been busy putting together a new album: ODD NUMBERS due for release early in 2021. Visit also: www.tuppennyblue.co.uk
